Gurudwara Sri Guru Har Rai Ji , Noormahal
In 1652, Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji visited this site. Guru Ji was travelling from Dalla via Nakodar.
At the time there was a Bagh (garden) here. The Bagh belonged to Diwan Bhawagir so Guru Har Rai sent a message with a Sikh asking to meet Diwan Bhawagir.
Diwan Bhawagir was scared of meeting Guru Har Rai for fear of the muslim authorities who hated non-muslims. Diwan Bhawagir sent a message back to Guru Har Rai saying he was asleep.
Guru Har Rai understood and commented that if Diwan Bhawagir was asleep he should stay asleep. It so happended that at the same time a posionous snake bit Diwan Bhawagir and he died.
Another man named Chaudary Sood heard that Guru Har Rai was in Nurmehal and met Guru Ji with great respect and offered his services. Chaudary Sood said that he had no child and asked Guru Ji to help.
Guru Har Rai said that Chaudary Sood should carry out Sewa, Simran and help those that were poor. After a year Chaudary Sood’s wife had a child and his family subsquently grew.
Bhai Fateh Shah also met Guru Har Rai and asked several questions. Once Guru Har Rai answered all of Bhai Fateh Shah’s questions, Bhai Fateh Shah fell at Guru Har Rai’s feet. Before leaving Nurmehal, Guru Har Rai asked for this location to be developed into a dharamsala and the message of Sikhi to be shared.
The Gurdwara is managed on behalf of the SGPC.
