Gurudwara Godavarisar Sahib – Dhilwan kalan

This Gurdwara is situated at a distance of 5 Km Southeast of Kotkapura City on Bathinda-Baja Khanna-Faridkot Road in Village Dhilwan kalan.

When Tenth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji started his journey from Alamgir, he reached the town of Kotkapura. Since the Mughal army was following him he asked Chaudhri kapura (the founder of Kotkapura) to give him Fort to fight against Mughals, but Kapura refused to help Guru Ji in his Struggle against the Mughals. So Guru Ji alongwith his followers reached Village Dhiwan kalan which was known as Dhilwan Sodhian at that time. In this Village, Kaul Sodhi, a descendant of Fifth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s elder brother Prithi Chand, used to reside. He with his four sons received Guru Ji with respect. He presented white clothes to Guru Ji and requested him to change clothes. A Sarovar existed in this Village. Guru Ji took bath in the Sarovar and changed to white clothes. Guru Ji named the Sarovar as Godavarisar and said that a dip in this Sarovar will give same benefits as taking a Holy dip in the Godavari River (near Nanded in Maharashtra State, River Godavari is known as River Ganga of South and considered Holy by the Hindus). Thereafter, Guru Ji tore the blue dress into pieces which he had been wearing since he left Machhiwara and burnt it in fire. Guru Ji uttered these Historic words :” I have torn the blue clothes which I wore and with that the rule of the Turks and Pathans is at an end “. Guru Ji stayed for 2 Days at this place and then left for town Jaito on his way to ‘Khidrane Dee Dhab’.
