Barnala

The District of Barnala is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 1410 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Moga in the Northwest, District Bathinda in the West, District Ludhiana in the North and District Sangrur on all other sides. The City of Barnala is the headquarter of this District.
Barnala was founded by Baba Ala Singh in 1775 when he pushed Rungarh Muslims out of the area who were known for their stealing and plundering acts in nearby Villages. This District was part of Sangrur District. It was created by Captain Amarinder Singh, Ex-Chief Minister of Punjab, in 2006 with special efforts of Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon, MLA Barnala. This District is well known for Textiles.
This District has been divided into two Tehsils and one Sub-Tehsil –
