Ludhiana

The District of Ludhiana is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 3767 Sq. Km. in area. It is the most centrally located District of Punjab. The River Sutlej is on the North side which separates it from Districts Jalandhar & Hoshiarpur. The District Rupnagar lies in the East, District Moga in the West, Districts Patiala & Fatehgarh Sahib in the Southeast and Districts Sangrur & Barnala in the South.
Ludhiana has got its name from Lodhi dynasty which ruled in Delhi from 1451 -1526 AD and founded this City. Earlier it was a Village called ‘Mir Hota’. When a new City was constructed at its place, it came to be known as ‘Lodhi-ana’ which later on changed to Ludhiana. This District is famous for Textiles and Bicycle Parts Industry and is also known as ‘Manchester of India’.
This District has been divided into 7 Tehsils and 7 Sub-Tehsils -Tehsils – Jagraon , Khana , Ludhiana East , Ludhiana West , Payal , Raikot , SamralaSub-Tehsils – Dehlon , Machhiwara , Malaud , Mullanpur , Dakha , Sidhwan Bet , Kum Kalan
