Sangrur
The District of Sangrur is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 3614 Sq.Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Barnala in the Northwest, District Ludhiana in the North, District Patiala in the East, District Mansa in the Southwest, District Bathinda in the West and District Jind of Haryana State in the South. The City of Sangrur is the headquarter of this District.
The City of Sangrur is believed to have been founded by One Sanghu, a Jat about 400 Years back. The District of Sangrur was formed in 1948 by taking parts from erstwhile Phulkian States of Jind, Nabha and Patiala, the Muslim State of Malerkotla and some parts of the then District of Ludhiana. Earlier Sangrur District was a part of Nabha State. In 1966, Jind and Narwana Tehsils were transferred to the newly created State of Haryana.
This District has been divided into 4 Tehsils and 8 Sub-Tehsils – Tehsils – Sangrur, Sunam, Malerkotla, MoonakSub-Tehsils – Ahmedgarh, Amargarh, Bhawanigarh, Dirbha, Khanauri, Lehra, Longowal, Sherpur
