The Gurdwara Nanaksar is situated in the town of Southall in west London. It was the second Gurdwara to be built in England, UK, and is situated in a mainly residential area where a lot of Sangat live locally or a short drive away.
The land for the Southall Nanaksar Gurdwara was purchased on the 25th June 1999 after obtaining the permission and blessings of Baba Gurdev Singh Jee to build a Nanaksar Gurdwara in Southall. The land itself was a derelict engineering factory that had been in decline for many years. The property had not even been on the market, when some Sewadars spotted it and made an approach to the owner, who eventually, with Baba Jees blessings decided to sell the land, so that the current Gurdwara could be built. The land is approximately one acre. Once plans had been finalized and passed by the local building planning authority, construction began and the foundation ceremony was performed in October 1999.
Ragiis (Monks) from India were sent by Poojniya Baba Jee, so that the daily Kirtan which forms the cornerstone of the Nanaksar regime could begin. It was Baba Jees wish that the Kirtan should start as soon as possible even though the construction had not been completed. Kirtan started in the annex hall in November 2000, and the opening ceremony of the main hall was done on the 3rd February 2001. Baba Gurdev Singh Jee and dignitaries from other Nanaksar Gurdwaras were in attendance.
The main function that is celebrated here is Masya every month. This is as per the directions of Baba Jee so it would not conflict with the Pooranmashi celebrations that take place at the Birmingham Gurdwara, thereby enabling Sangat to attend both functions in Gurdwaras.
