Gurdwara Rajghat Sangat Pahili Pathshai-Burhanpur
Gurdwara Rajghat Sangat Pahili Pathshai - Burhanpur, an old walled town in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, is on the banks of Tapti River, four kilometres from Burhanpur railway station on the Delhi-Itarsi-Bombay line. Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh visited Burhanpur. One of Bhai GurDas's Vars points to the existence of a Sikh Sangat here in early seventeenth century. Later, during the eighteenth century, Hathi Singh son of Mata Sundari's adopted son Ajit Singh lived here. There are now two historical Gurdwaras at Burhanpur. Gurdwara Rajghat Sangat Pahili Pathshai on the river bank dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev is in a single room and is looked after by a Nihang Singh who lives in a similar room close by.
History takes us back to seventeenth and eighteenth century which speaks about the Sikh Sangat here and also the livelihood of Hathi Singh, son of Mata Sundari's adopted son Ajit Singh. The Gurdwaras have come up with the remembrance of two great Gurus viz Guru Nanak Dev ji and Guru Gobind Singh ji who visited Burhanpur. As already narrated, the 18th century marks the significance of Mata Sundari adopting Ajit singh and his son Hathi Singh lived here. The Sangat Pahili Pathshai which adores the river bank side is hosting the memories of Guru Nanak Dev and is in a single room. Sikhs are associated with Burhanpur, MP, from the early 16th Century which dates back to the visit of his holiness Guru Nanakji. Also Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru halted at Burhanpur in 1708.
This site is now hosting the Gurudwara Bari Sangat and has the hand written Guru Granth Sahib's copy which Guru Gobind has himself signed. The old building of Burhanpur has this Gurudwara on the banks of river Tapti which is around four kms from Burhanpur Railway Station. A Sikh Sangat is said to have existed here in 17th century and Burhanpur holds two holy Gurudwaras out of which one is Rajghat Sangat Pahili Pathsahi which is in the memory of Guru Nanak Dev ji adoring in a single room which is taken care by Nihand Singh living in a similar room close by.
The Gurudwara has an area of 16 acres of land and the Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a marble structure and is centered with a spacious high ceilinged hall, rectangular in shape and surrounded by a gallery on three sides and the old hand written Granth Sahib is meticulously safeguarded here.
This Gurudwara is in the railway route of Mumbai-Itarsi-Delhi and is 4 kms away from Burhanpur Railway station in MP. From Burhanpur, one can take any vehicle to reach this shrine.
