Gurudwara Sahib Barambala , Sikh Chawniat
One of the First Gurudwara’s constructed in Hyderabad Deccan region in Asaf Jahi Period in 1832 AD. Gurudwara Saheb Barambala (GSBB) is situated in “Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Nagar” Sikh Chawni with acres of land Sikhs residing in and around Gurudwara which 1200 Sikh families. Heritage Strutures of Nizam Like Charminar, Golconda Fort, Chowmahalla Palace & Qutub Shahi tombs are in a radius of 8 kms from GSBB. GSBB has been significant landmark for the people who travel from International Airport & Railway Station of Hyderabad. Hitech City, IT SEZ, and Financial District of Hyderabad are in the very close proximity from GSBB
n the year 1832 A.D., the Nizam of Hyderabad was facing trouble from Jagirdars who were not paying the revenue. Chandulal, the Prime Minister of Nizam of Hyderabad, who had great Reverance for Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he has requested Nizam to take help from Maharaja Ranjeet Singh King of Punjab who was governing north west province till Kabul and Kandhar.
In 1832 A.D, Nizam of Hyderabad has sent letter requesting Maharaja Ranjeet Singh to help him in tackling the Jagirdars / Razakars who were revolting against him. Along with this letter, Nizam of Hyderabad has also sent beautiful canopy(Chandni) embedded with precious stones, gems and diamonds When it reached Lahore in the courts of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh.
He was pleased to see the beautiful and costliest canopy spread over his court. Maharaja Ranjeet Singh was obliged by the present sent by Nizam of Hyderabad and he was so happy that he ordered the canopy to be presented and placed with regards to HarmandirSaheb (Golden Temple), Amritsar. He felt himself that on Shri Guru GranthSaheb Ji can be placed under such a beautiful and costliest canopy of the world in those times.
Maharaja Ranjeet Singh had sent 14 Risalas to Nizam of Hyderabad state, each Risala was headed by one Risaldar(Army chief) with 1000 soldiers. They were soldiers sent under 14 Nishans to Nizam of Hyderabad with ordinancethat.
“It is the duty of Sikh to give protection to whomever, who comes for protection”. Thesoldier’s salary payment will be sent from Punjab Treasury. Nizam of Hyderabad upon receiving 14 thousand Sikh Regiment from Lahore was highly obliged and given the place to reside. Sikhregiments were placed at five different Chawni's.Fourteen Nishans with 14 Risaldars were placed at Sikh Chawniat,Attapur and the place was called "Barambala".
Now Sikh Chawni has been named as “Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Nagar” with acres of land Sikhs residing from then on. Sikh Chawni now houses 1200 families with Sikhs working for Government Organisations, Private Industry, IT Industry and own established businesses.
Old Gurudwara building constructed in 1832 A.D is still standing tall telling the rich history of Deccan Sikhs. A new building is under construction which is half way and will be completed in next few months.
