Gurdwara Akalgarh Sahib Village Gharuan

This Gurdwara Sahib is sacred to Guru Har Rai. He visited the place during his travels in these parts. Several people accepted his teachings. They established a Dhramshala on the Village. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji also is believed to visited Gharuan, while on his way to Delhi in 1675. Guruji first went to the place inside the Village commemorating the visit of Guru Har Rai. But the prists there probably not recognizing him, treated him with indifference. He came back and retired to a quiet groove about 300 metres north of the Village. The Villagers realizing their error came to make apologies. They requested Guruji to stay in Dhramshala, to which Guruji refused. According to another tradition Guruji came to this place and stayed for 10 days in 1670. A carpenter Balap Ram served him with much Devotion.

This Gurdwara is situated at a distance of 7 Km East of town Morinda and 9 Km from town Kharar on Chandigarh-Ludhiana National Highway in Village Gharuan.   The Ninth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji visited Village Gharuan in 1675 while on his way from Anandpur Sahib to Delhi for martyrdom. Guru Ji was accompanied by Bhai Mati Das Ji , Bhai Sati das Ji , Bhai Dyala Ji , Bhai Udai Singh Rathore Ji , Bhai Gurditta Ji  and Bhai Jaita Ji. Guru Ji went to the place where Guru Har Rai Ji had stayed, but the Priests, not recognizing Guru Ji , did not pay respect. Guru Ji left the place and came to a place about 300 metres North of the Village. The Villagers and the Priests soon realized their error and came to ask for forgiveness. They requested Guru Ji to stay in Dharamshala, but Guru Ji refused. Next Day Guru Ji started his journey again and went to Villages Nandpur and Kalaur (in District Fatehgarh Sahib). Gurdwara Akalgarh is situated at the place where Guru Ji had rested.   According to another tradition, Guru Ji visited this place in 1670 and stayed here for 10 Days. A Carpenter named Balap Ram served Guru Ji with love and devotion
