Sayyed Baba Jaani Shah was a very religious person and always wanted to have a glimpse of God. He disguised himself as a Faqir and left his home in the hope of finding a way to meet God. He prayed to the Gods of Hindus and Muslims, offered five Namazs (the Muslim Prayer) daily and continued to meditate, but could not succeed. He was told by someone about Sixth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, so he went to meet a person named Khwaja Roshan, who used to serve the horses of Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Guru Ji sent a Sikh to Jaani Shah to tell him that if he wanted money, clothes or something else, he would be given that. But Baba Jaani Shah refused to take anything and said that please enable Jaani to meet Jaani (the beloved God). Then Guru Ji raised a wall to test the devotion of Jaani Shah. Some days later, when Sikhs requested, Guru Ji said that if Jaani Shah wanted to meet God he should jump into river Beas. One Sikh went and told Jaani Shah about what Guru Ji had said.
