An old hand written copy of Guru Granth sahib is carefully conserved within the walls and above the sanctum sanctorum which has very many colors adoring its height which is nothing but the Gurdwara Bari Sangat. The Gurudwara which covers over an area of 16 acres is also famous as Hathi Singh died at this place and we can observe here that the Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a gentle seat made of marble in a high elevated place, and looks more attractive in this rectangular shaped hall, with corridors surrounding the other three portions. Two floors are also found here, and a pavilion adoring the upper portion. It is pertinent to add that the place has become more sacred with an old Granth Sahib copy with colored binding, being conserved here.
The Gurdwara Bari Sangat situated at the Eastern Nimar area of Kandwa District of Madhya Pradesh is out of the two Gurdwaras in Burhanpur and existence of Sikh Sangat at Burhanpur was confirmed and Bari Sangat is a place where Guru Gobind Singh stayed while going to Nanded. While visiting th place in May 1708, Guru Gobind Singh who was travelling to Deccan area with Emperor Bahadur Shah I stayed at Burhanpur and the local Sikhs were taking care of him during his stay, and also they continued their union of meetings after the Guru's leaving the place also. Thus, the place became Burhanpur Sangat and was called as Bari Sangat.
It was this existing room which was available for the public on the day of Kartik Purnima since it was the day when the Guru ji travelled to this place and stayed. Ahmad Shah Durani during 1757 kicked out Mathura and Hathi Singh son of Ajit Singh, who was the adopted son of Mata Sundari started living in Burhanpur and later Hathi Singh reached the abodes and had no legal male heir and hence the Sangat had to continue with the guidance of Nirmala and other priests and the existing structure of the Gurdwara was built by Sikh personnel who came from Punjab. We can see the existing structure with hall, rooms and Guru's place and houses. Also this place adores tombs of Hathi Singh and his spouse.Places nearby are Burhanpur, Jalgaon-Jamod, Malkapur and one can easily take bus or other conveyance to travel to the Gurdwara from the Burhanpur Railway Station.
