Gurudwara Nirmohgarh Sahib – Nirmohgarh

This Gurdwara is situated at a distance of 4 Km South of town Kiratpur Sahib and 6 Km from town Anandpur Sahib in Village Nirmohgarh.

Ajmer Chand, the ruler of Bilaspur with the support of many hill Rajas attacked Anandpur Sahib in the Year 1700. The hill armies attacked all the four Forts which were around Anandgarh Fort, but could not gain entry. Then they encircled Anandpur Sahib in the hope of starving Sikhs into surrender, but that also did not happen. Finally, Ajmer Chand swore by Cow (Cow is Sacred to Hindus) and offered peace to Tenth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji by saying that if Guru Ji leaves Anandpur Sahib for few Days, then they would never attack Anandpur Sahib. So Guru Ji agreed to evacuate Anandpur Sahib and alongwith Sikhs came to the top of a hill known as Nirmohgarh. Here Guru Ji set up a Camp. The hill Rajas did not keep their word and thought that this is the best time to attack Guru Ji and capture or finish him because he is now out in the open without the protection of any Fort. At this place, hill Rajas attacked the Khalsa army of Guru Gobind Singh Ji on 7 October, 1700. This attack was repulsed by the brave Sikh Soldiers of Guru Ji. Another attack of hill Rajas was repulsed by the Khalsa army on 12 October, 1700. On 13 October, 1700 the hill Rajas got the support from Mughals of Sirhind who were equipped with Cannons. The hill armies and the Mughal troops encircled Sikhs and launched another attack. They fired a Cannon shot at Guru Ji who was sitting on the top of Nirmohgarh Hill. Guru Ji escaped unhurt, but his attendant Bhai Ram Singh won martyrdom. Then Guru Ji shot an arrow and killed the Cannoneer. On 14 October, 1700 Guru Ji and his Khalsa army broke the cordon and reached Basali by crossing River Sutlej. Basali was a small friendly State. The eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji also fought valiantly in this battle. He was 13 Years of age at that time.
