In the 1930's, there were a few Sikhs residing around Batu Gajah. They were mainly employed in the various tin mines in this area. So, me of the Sikhs worked as bullock cart drivers or were dairy farmers.

In 1940, these Sikhs built a Gurdwara Sahib building on the present site, which is about one acre in size. In 1965, the Sikh sangat decided to build a new Gurdwara Sahib building. The Minister of Welfare Services, Y.B. Hj. Abdul Hamid Khan laid the foundation stone on 6th September 1965. The new Gurdwara Sahib building was officially declared open by the sangat on 1" December 1966. The Chief Minister (Menteri Besar) of the State of Perak, Dato Ahmad Bin Said visited the Gurdwara Sahib on this occasion and presented a Government Grant of RM25,000.00.

In 1993, the Gurdwara Sahib building was renovated at a cost of RM16,000.00. In 1997, this Gurdwara Sahib underwent major renovations which cost RM65,000.00. There are three rooms in the Gurdwara Sahib premises that may be used by Sikh visitors.

There are presently 20 Sikh families who reside in this area and participate in the religious activities in this Gurdwara. Bhai Bakhtawar Singh Khera served as a Granthi here from 1942 to 1957. Bhai Charan Singh served as a Granthi here from 1957 to 1975. The usual weekly prayers are held on Sundays from 10.00a.m. to 12.00p.m.
