Faridkot

The District of Faridkot is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 1469 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Mukatsar in the Southwest, District Ferozepur in the Northwest, District Bathinda in the South and District Moga in the West. The City of Faridkot is the headquarter of this District.
Faridkot’s Old name was ‘Mokalhar’ after the name of its founder Raja Mokalsi, a Bhatti Chief of Rajasthan. A Great Sufi Saint Baba Sheikh Farid was passing through this District and the City when he was captured by the soldiers of Raja. The soldiers put him to bonded labour for the construction work of the Faridkot Fort (known as Qila Mubarak). Baba Farid carried a basket full of Earth which was seen floating over his head. Seeing this miracle, Raja came to Baba Ji and fell on his feet, he asked for forgiveness. Baba Farid Ji pardoned the Raja and did meditation for 40 Days at a place close to the Fort where ‘Tilla Baba Farid’ is situated. The District was renamed as Faridkot in honour of Baba Farid Ji from that Day. Baba Ji’s Verses have been incorporated in Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
This District has been divided into 2 Tehsils and 1 Sub-Tehsil – Tehsil – Faridkot , JaitoSub-Tehsil – Sadiq
