Hoshiarpur
The District of Hoshiarpur is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 3364 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by Districts Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Kapurthala in the Southwest, District Gurdaspur in the Northwest, District Ludhiana in the South, District Rupnagar in the Southeast and Districts Kangra and Una of Himachal Pradesh State in the Northeast. The City of Hoshiarpur is the headquarter of this District.
This District is situated in the foothills of Shivalik Ranges of Himalaya and so it has many Seasonal rivulets which bring floods during heavy rains. Hoshiarpur was a part of Indus Valley Civilization. According to one legend, Hoshiarpur was part of Raja Virat’s kingdom and Pandavas spent one Year of their Agyatvas (to live by not revealing yourself) in this District, a fact mentioned in ‘Mahabharata’.
This District is famous for its Citrus Fruits, Mangoes, Litchi, Peach, Pear and Guava as its climate is most suitable for all these.
